LRP  Livestock Risk Protection

(Feeder Cattle)Not available now.

Maybe it will be back by Thanksgiving.

This course of action provides protection for the investor against a decrease in price during the covered period. The protection offered in Kansas is for feeder steer cattle only at this time (no heifers or feedlot cattle).

The steers to be covered, should be “targeted” to weigh between 650 and 900 pounds at the end of the “feeder” stage period, and ready to go into a feedlot for finishing.

LRP—Feeder Cattle Insurance is offered in 21, 26, 30, 34, 39, 43, 47, and 52 week blocks. The “transaction price” is determined daily, using the previous trading day closing price on the CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) for the Cash-Settled Feeder Cattle Index Prices. Your “covered price” should be based on your “Expected Ending Value” price at the conclusion of the covered  period and this stage of your beef production phase.

You can choose from 6 levels of coverage, from approximately 82% to 95% of the established “Settlement” price for the “block of time” of your choice. Premium costs are in relation.

Coverage can be purchased between 7 AM and 8 PM Central Time. Not available for sale on weekends or Federal Holidays. The covered period closes at the end of your block of weeks selected at the beginning (purchasing) transaction. Same day of week beginning / ending.

There are no “Margin Calls” associated with this management tool.

This program covers price risk only; mortality, physical damage, disease, condemnation, and other risks are not a covered condition.

You are permitted to cover only “your owned share” of the lot of feeder cattle. All entities with a 10% or greater beneficial interest in the investment unit must be reported when making application for the coverage.
